What is the process of creating Carolina Ruiz Jewellery?
Our jewellery begins with a collection of memories, inspiration in shapes and feelings captured in sketches.
These sketches are then brought to life through CAD, where our skilled artisans craft the initial sample.

Materials
What materials does Carolina Ruiz Jewellery use?
Our commitment to creating enduring jewellery extends beyond aesthetics.
You deserve to have the best quality material and semi-precious stones.
All our earring posts and hooks are crafted from hypoallergenic metals like Vermeil, sterling silver and gold-filled (nickel free and lead free)
Our hair jewellery and costume Jewellery is crafted from sustainable solid brass with 18k gold plating and a waterproof finish, ensuring durability.
14k Gold-filled
Gold-filled is metal (regularly brass) with a layer of gold of a minimum of 10 karats, bonded to the surface of brass by applying heat and pressure. Gold-filled is a quality designation that's regulated by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), and by law, the total weight of gold-filled must contain 5% of the item's total weight.
Gold-filled is a great option if you want jewellery with the same appearance as high-carat gold; you pay just a fraction and it will last.
Sterling Silver
Sterling Silver is an alloy of 92.5 pure silver with 7.5% of the weight of other metals like copper. Pure silver is a soft metal and difficult to shape making it not as durable as Sterling Silver.
18k Vermeil
Vermeil is a type of high-quality 18k gold-plated jewellery where a thick layer of gold five (5) times thicker than regular gold plating is applied to a base of sterling silver.
Brass
I love using brass because it is one of the most sustainable metals due to its ability to be recycled and reused. Its corrosion resistance makes brass ideal for applications where exposure to air or water can break down weaker materials like steel or aluminium. Its malleability also allows brass to be reshaped and repurposed for a variety of uses.
Brass requires little energy for production, which makes it an eco-friendly choice. Brass pieces also create a beautiful patina over time as they oxidise, which only serves to add more character to the piece and increases its longevity. As a result, using my brass home decor and accessories allows you to have beautiful pieces that are lovely and long-lasting while still being mindful of the environment.
Why does Carolina Ruiz Jewellery use Gold Filled?
Shiny for longer
Gold-filled jewellery, also called "rolled gold" or "gold bonded," is a type of metal where a layer of gold is mechanically fused to a core, typically brass. This bonding process uses heat and pressure to create a strong connection between the gold and the base metal. Making the jewellery last longer than gold plated.
Great for sensitive skin
Gold-filled jewellery features a thick layer of real gold on the outside. This ensures minimal exposure to the base metal underneath, making it a comfortable choice for most wearers.
Budget-friendly
Gold-filled jewellery offers a sweet spot between affordability and quality. It provides a thicker layer of gold making it more durable. Yet, it remains a more budget-friendly option compared to solid gold.
Why does Carolina Ruiz Jewellery uses 18k Gold Vermeil
18k Gold Vermeil is perfect, for those seeking the ultimate blend of luxury, durability, and skin-friendliness.
Vermeil is made with solid gold. Not only is lead-free and nickel-free. It also has a thicker layer of 18K gold than gold plated, with a minimum of 2.5 microns over sterling silver.
All our jewellery is handcrafted from premium materials, it ensures long-lasting beauty and comfort.
Can my jewellery or accesories tarnish?
Gold Filled
In most circumstances, gold filled will not tarnish, even so, it could happen when is exposed to chemical sulphides and heavy toxins in the air it can.
18k Gold Vermeil
Our gold vermeil is exceptionally durable thanks to its thick layer of 18k gold. This substantial coating is more resistant to wear and tear than standard gold plating, ensuring your jewellery maintains its lustrous appearance for longer.
While vermeil is highly durable, it's important to handle it with care. Like any fine jewellery, prolonged exposure to water, chemicals, and harsh conditions can affect its lifespan. To preserve its beauty, we recommend storing your vermeil pieces in a cool, dry place and avoiding contact with perfumes, lotions, and household cleaners.
With proper care, your vermeil jewellery will remains a cherished piece for years.
Sterling Silver
Yes, it can, and the great news is it can be easily cleaned to remove the tarnish. Unlike pure silver, which is resistant to tarnish, sterling silver contains other metals that react with moisture and sulfur in the air, causing discoloration.
The best way to prevent tarnish is by simply wearing your sterling silver.
Brass or Copper
Brass and copper can darken and develop a patina over time, which can look beautiful. However, if you prefer a brighter finish, they can be easily cleaned to remove the tarnish.
How do I care and clean my Carolina Ruiz jewellery?
Always remove your jewelry before showering, swimming, or exercising, even if it's solid gold. This helps prevent damage and tarnishing. For storage, choose a fabric bag or reusable plastic bag to protect your jewellery from moisture and dust.
Here's how to clean your jewellery, whether it's Sterling Silver, Brass, or Copper:
